Oh, summer. The sun is out, the air is hot, the sweat is dripping, and the popsicles are ready for…a good licking? Okay maybe I need to dust off my old poet hat, but you get the gist. It is July and we are in the thick of summer! I thought now would be the perfect time to share some great summer essentials but with a twist. A Summer Essentials Guide: For Eco-Friendly Mamas and Babies!
There are so many summer product guides all over the internet, but I couldn’t really find any that focused solely on eco-friendly, green, all natural products. So I put my researcher’s hat on and scoured the glorious world wide web and found some great companies and products that are not only eco-friendly but also stylish and cool! All the companies listed below either give part of their proceeds to charity, are recycled, made from renewable resources, chemical-free, all natural, or are just generally eco-conscious and health conscious.
A Little disclaimer: Although I have spent many hours researching these products, I could have missed some vital information in the process. So if you happen to know that any of these products/companies are not as wonderful or honest as they sound, please let me know! I only want to promote truly eco-friendly, all-natural products. Not imposters! Thank you. 🙂
I am a massive fan of Babo Botanicals. I use so many of their products and I love them all. Their sunscreens are free of SLS, Sulfates, Parabens, Phthalates, Synthetic Fragrances, Dyes, Sodium chloride, Formaldehyde, MEA, DEA, TEA, and most common allergens. You can feel confident that with Babo the sunscreen you are putting on your skin is only there to protect it and not cause it harm. That sounds lik a cheesy ad…but it’s true!
From the chlorine in the pools to the salt in the ocean, our lips can take a beating in the summer. This Babo chapstick is moisturizing, all natural, and contains SPF 15.
When I asked my little sister (15 yrs old) what would be on her summer essentials list, she said definitely eye drops. I guess this might be more geared more toward anyone who opens their eyes under water for any length of time (not usually mamas whose eyes are probably plastered on their children), but here are some all natural eye drops nonetheless!
Besides the heat, I think my least favorite part of summer is the bugs! This Badger Bug Balm is 100% natural and chemical free.
All Nomadix towels are made from 100% recycled material. Their goal is to produce environmentally-friendly products in the most sustainable way possible. These towels have so many different uses. You can take it to the beach or use it as a yoga mat!
Sand Cloud towels are made from 100% Turkish Cotton. They also donate 10% of all their profits to non-profit organizations that preserve marine life.
(Order through their website using my sisters discount code “CarleeH25” for 25% off!)
This beautiful beach throw is made of 100% organic cotton and dyed with vegan/vegetable based dyes.
These tote bags are 100% Organic Cotton and perfect for the pool, beach, or even groceries!
These mesh bags are so awesome. Once again, you save plastic and paper by utilizing reusable bags. But they are also great for the beach because the sand will fall right out of the bag instead of gathering at the bottom.
We all know that plastic water bottles are horrible for the environment. My family and I recently stopped buying water bottles and only use reusable bottles. Not only have we probably saved hundreds of dollars already, we probably saved hundreds of water bottles from polluting our land fills and oceans. If you need a good reusable bottle, I found these awesome Tree Tribe bottles. They plant 10 trees for every purchase made! How cool is that?!
I searched and searched and couldn’t find any eco-friendly, reusable coolers. This Colman cooler is made out of plastic, which is not the best. However, it does have ThermOZONE™ Insulation. It contains no CFCs, HFCs or HCFCs, which deplete the ozone layer. So there’s something!
These awesome 100% pure silicone bags are eco-friendly, non-allergenic, non-reactive, hygienic, repel germs and chemicals, and are not toxic to the environment. Plus they don’t contain any fillers, coating, phthalates, or any other icky chemicals that might leak into your food. They are perfect for throwing fruit or sandwiches into before heading to the pool or beach!
You can’t go to the beach with kids without some sand toys! These Green Toys are made from recycled curbside milk containers and contain no BPA or phthalates.
I will admit, diapers are my weakness when it comes to being green and eco-friendly. The everyday convenience of disposable diapers is hard for me to give up (These are the eco-friendly disposable diapers I use and love!). However, since going to the beach or pool is not an all day or everyday occurrence, it’s the perfect time to utilize reusable diapers. Thirstiest and Charlie Banana are two great options.
I am not a huge fan of Babyganics. However, if you are really set on using disposable swim diapers, they seem to be the only semi-natural brand out there offering disposable swim diapers.
These are just two adorable sun hats that are made of 100% organic cotton.
Toms has always been one of my favorite brands because of their One for One promise. For every pair of shoes you purchase, they give a pair to a child in need. They also have some adorable children’s sandals that are the perfect eco-friendly shoe choice for the summer.
I had the hardest time finding organic/eco-conscious swimwear for children. Then, I stumbled upon Le Petit Organics and I am SO IN LOVE. I want to buy Lily every single swimsuit they sell. It’s that cute! However, I didn’t really find much more. If you know of any eco-friendly/organic children’s swimwear brands, please share!
Turns out there are not really any super eco-friendly baby sunglasses out there in the world. Still, these baby sunglasses are BPA, Phthalate, and PVC free. So that’s better than nothing.
Every baby needs their own pool/beach towel small enough for their little bodies, right? Well, here is an organic one. And it’s super cute too!
If you want a safe place for your baby to sleep on the beach but you don’t want to bring a whole tent, this little non-toxic baby tent is perfect!
Solo sunglasses are made up of 20% recycled plastic, which isn’t that great. However, for each pair of sunglasses purchased Solo funds eye care for people in need through prescription eyeglasses and sight saving eye surgeries. That’s amazing! They are also super cute.
These wooden glasses are made by the same company as those cool stainless steel reusable water bottles. So for every pair of glasses you buy, they will plant 10 trees!
Once again, Toms! For every pair you buy, they give a pair to a child in need! If you’re going to buy basic flip flops, might as well be charitable ones.
These sandals are made from PCU, a superior grade of sustainable, eco-friendly plastic injected with air. I showed them to my super hip and cool sisters and they want to buy a pair for themselves. So there you go! Hip, cool, eco-friendly sandals.
All Vitamin A swimsuits are made from recycled nylon fiber in factories that use innovative ways to conserve electricity and water. They are a bit pricey, but a simple black one-piece would be worth the cost because it never really goes out of style.
I don’t know about you, but I never go to the pool or beach without a cover up. Here’s a great one!
This basic maxi dress is made of 100% Pima organic cotton. They also use Oeko-tex® certified dyes which are ecologically gentle and free of harmful chemicals!
This sun hat is made from 60% naturally colored hemp and 40% cotton. It is also “Fair Trade”, which allows artisans a fair wage to support their families and supports safe working conditions.
This SPF 15 lip tint is all natural and contains Babo’s exclusive Nutri-Soothe Complex rich in vitamins and anti-oxidants!
Summer is when it’s time to add an extra step to your daily routine. Put sunscreen on your face! This sheer sunscreen is Babo once again. All-natural and amazing!
One item my sister (she’s an avid beach goer ) said she can’t go without when she is at the beach is a brush. This travel brush by EcoTools is 100% cruelty and vegan!
My hope for this guide is that it helped you find all the products you need for summer without having to spend time researching which ones are the most eco-friendly and natural.
Comment below if you know of any other summer essentials that are eco-friendly!
